American Airlines adds larger aircraft to Columbia fleet

American Airlines is adding larger aircraft to one of its two routes that serve the mid-Missouri community.

Last week, the Texas-based air carrier announced it would start using CRJ-900 series aircraft for its Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) to Columbia Regional Airport (COU) route.

The new aircraft will feature 76 seats, including 12 in first class.

Operations Supervisor at Columbia Regional Airport, Michael Parks said, “I think all the opportunities this aircraft provides, being increased capacity, it also provides two bathrooms, and increased first-class seating.”

The CRJ-900 also features upgraded legroom, bigger windows and improved LED lighting.

Service from Dallas to Columbia through American Airlines is now provided by Mesa Airlines.

“Overall your experience on this aircraft is going to make us successful out of Dallas.”

Flights from Columbia to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) will still be served by CRJ-700 series aircraft.
