Jury returns not guilty verdict in Susan Van Note double murder trial

A jury in Laclede County has returned a not guilty verdict in the double murder trial of Susan Van Note.

The jury on the Susan Van Note trial started deliberations around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, about 6 1/2 years after William Van Note, Susan’s father, and Sharon Dickson, William’s girlfriend, were shot and killed in their waterfront home in Camden County.

Susan Van Note is facing charges of forgery and two counts of murder in the first degree. Van Note’s trial started last Tuesday.

The prosecution said that Van Note was allegedly trying to get in control of her father’s money.

This is the second trial. The first was declared as a mistrial in June 2015. The defense said that the jury was talking about the trial during their breaks.

The jury came back into the courtroom around 3 p.m. Tuesday and started listening to the 911 call William Van Note made on the night of the murder and a police interview with Susan Van Note after the night of the murder.
