Board of Education to vote on acceleration of new school

The Columbia Public School District’s Board of Education will vote on at least two items in a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

One of the topics is voting whether or not to accelerate the building of a new middle school.

The school district originally planned to open the new middle school in 2022, but the district’s superintendent said that overcrowding at Ann Hawks Gentry Middle School has become a problem.

Accelerating the plans for the new middle school would put other school projects on hold, such as upgrading a kitchen at one middle school.
