Columbia man accused of damaging Boone County Jail

A Columbia robbery suspect is now accused of damaging the Boone County Jail.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by ABC 17 News, Dorice Smith, 25, broke off a fire suppression nozzle inside his jail cell around 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Corrections officers also said Smith covered a camera inside the cell and a window in the door with human excrement.

Investigators haven’t released how much the damage will cost.

Smith was charged in Boone County on Friday with felony property damage to a jail.

Prosecutors have also charged Smith with stealing, among other charge, after he was accused of stealing a purse from a woman at Moser’s grocery store on the Business Loop in Columbia on Sunday.

Smith is set to appear in Boone County court on those charges for a preliminary hearing Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
