UPDATE: Power restored after more than 1,000 customers, middle school effected

UPDATE 11:42 a.m.: The power has been restored, and we will continue to update this story with any new information.

ORIGINAL STORY: More than 1,000 Columbia Water and Light customers were without power Thursday morning.

According to the outage map, there is currently one outage affecting 1,269 customers in south Columbia.

At one point, the outage map listed six outages.

Columbia Public Schools confirms Gentry Middle School and C.O.R.E. are both without power.

Columbia Water and Light says there is a problem with circuits coming out of the Hinkson Creek substation which is affecting the Southampton Drive area.

Columbia Water and Light says they hope to have the power back on for a majority of customers within the next hour.
