Lincoln University staff, students lobby at Capitol
Representatives from Lincoln University visited the Missouri State Capitol Wednesday.
Staff and students paid visits to state legislators to remind them of the college’s academic contributions to Missouri.
“It’s a good opportunity for us to reacquaint ourselves with our legislators,” said Lincoln University spokesperson Misty Young. “Lincoln University Day is really about reminding our legislators who we are.”
Gov. Eric Greitens announced cuts to higher education including more than $3 million from the Lincoln University.
However, his proposed budget returns almost $700,000 to the college in performance-based funding.
“We’re hoping to have some conversations and maybe change those numbers a bit,” said Young. “We understand that the state of Missouri has to have a balanced budget.”
Recent cuts to Lincoln University led its president, Dr. Kevin Rome, to announce potential layoffs late late year.
