Jefferson City, Lincoln University wellness center construction nearly complete
After years of consideration, planning and construction, the Lincoln University wellness center is scheduled for a soft opening Feb. 20.
A collaborative project between Lincoln University and Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, the multipurpose building cost just over $11 million.
The university contributed $4.6 million, the parks department gave $6.5 million from sales tax collections and an additional $4 million was from various donations.
The building consists of two levels, the lower of which is just under 47,000 square feet and includes four basketball courts.
The upper level is just over 23,000 square feet and consists of a fitness center, two classrooms to be used by Lincoln University and the LU president’s suite, which overlooks the college’s football field.
The new recreation center is expected to bring more business to Jefferson City, according to city leaders.
