Boone County Commission in talks to update an agreement with Public Works

During the Boone County Commission meeting on Tuesday, Commissioners heard a possible updated collective bargaining agreement with the laborers local for Boone County Public Works.

The county counselor, C.J. Dykhouse, presented the updated agreement to the Commission.

The agreement is meant to continue good relations between the employees of the Boone County Public Works Department.

The agreement states the County recognizes the Union as the exclusive representative of all the employees of the Public Works department.

Dykhouse says,” The bargaining unit decided to throw their lot in collectively.”

The agreement also says each mechanic is to receive an annual tool allowance of $1,750.

There will also be a clothing allowance for all employees who need jeans and boots for the job.

The starting salaries will be based on salary ranges.

Once new employees complete their probationary period they will receive a 2.5% raise. After a year the employee will receive another raise.

The employees that work overnight between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. are to receive an additional $2 added on to their normal salary.

When managers are scheduling annual leave, the employees with the most seniority will get their first options.

The CBA will be effective until December 31, 2019.

The Boone County Commissioners will have their final vote on Tuesday February, 14.
