Former Jefferson City football player won’t play at Illinois State after arrest

Illinois State football head coach Brock Spack initiated the process to release recent signee Rashaun Woods from his National Letter of Intent signed last Wednesday.

ABC 17 News reported Friday that 18-year-old Woods was charged with rape and sodomy after two alleged sexual assaults. Woods was a former Jefferson City football player.

“We have begun the process to release Rashaun from his NLI effective immediately,” Spack said. “He will not be a part of the Redbird Football program moving forward and we will turn our focus to the beginning of spring workouts in March.”

ABC 17 News has also contacted Jefferson City Public Schools for a statement. We’re told the district does not comment on student matters, but that the District is proceeding in accordance with District policies and working closely with appropriate authorities.
