Deputies: Columbia man arrested, caught driving stolen vehicle

A Boone County deputy arrested 33-year-old Derek J. Long around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

The deputy was driving a patrol vehicle equipped with an Automatic License Plate Reader when the car Long was driving showed up as stolen, according to a sergeant in the Sheriff’s department.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop with Long near Highway 63 and Broadway.

The deputy said that Long was taken into custody without incident.

Deputies arrested Long on chargers of tampering in the first degree, driving while revoked and possession or control of a controlled substance.
