Woman pulled over for speeding, arrested for possession of meth
On Jan. 31, a woman was pulled over by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper in Miller County. She was going 71 mph in a 55 mph zone on Missouri 17.
Christa M. Garrett was the driver of the vehicle that was pulled over. When the trooper approached her, she was extremely emotional and nervous. The trooper asked Garrett to go to his patrol car, where she started sobbing uncontrollably. She told the trooper that she was schizophrenic.
The trooper was searching the vehicle when Garrett admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day to the other trooper on scene. Garrett took the prescription bottle that held the marijuana from her purse. One of the troopers requested to search her purse, but she wouldn’t let them because she claimed she was embarrassed by the sex toys that were in her purse. One of the pouches from the purse was locked, and the troopers had to cut it open. Inside the pouch was a white crystallized substance, later identified as 4.21 ounces of methamphetamine. There were also 97 small plastic baggies, seven prescription pills identified at Methylin ER, a glass pipe and $620 in cash her purse.
Garrett said that she was trying to sell the meth to get money for her dying mother. When taken to the Miller County Jail, there was an additional $20 found in Garrett’s bra.
