Plane lands safely at Columbia Regional Airport after gear issue

Fifty-nine people on board a flight landing in Columbia are safe after a potential gear issue.

Community relations spokesman Steve Sapp tells ABC 17 News the crew aboard the American Airlines flight from Dallas called in a possible issue with the plane’s landing gear around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. While the city dispatched fire and emergency crews, Sapp said the plane landed at Columbia Regional Airport without any problem.

Passengers tell ABC 17 News they were not aware of any issue until they landed, when the pilot announced it. One passenger said the pilot told them they experienced a problem with the “flight control gear,” and needed to warn ground crews at Columbia Regional Airport.

Four people on a small aircraft leaving from Texas experienced landing gear issues last week, requiring an emergency landing at Columbia Regional Airport. None of them were injured.
