Police detain two after victim confronts person allegedly going through vehicle

Columbia police have detained two people after getting reports of someone going through a vehicle at a south Columbia apartment complex.

Police tell ABC 17 News they arrived at Campus View apartments just before 3:00 Wednesday morning.

They say a victim saw someone going through their car and confronted the person. Police say they were able to track the suspect down in the apartment complex and ended up detaining two people.

Several Campus View residents told ABC17 News that police were allegedly in a standoff with someone, using an intercom or megaphone to try and get them to come out of their apartment.

One resident said she saw police with SWAT gear and guns pointed at the apartment. Residents said the police were there until about 5 a.m. and are still continuing to patrol the complex.

“It was scary to wake up to,” said one resident. “This is a college apartment in a decent area.”

It’s unclear if anyone was hurt in the incident or if any property was damaged or taken.

Police said Wednesday morning they were working on a press release about the incident.
