Amazon to collect city and county use tax in Missouri

Amazon confirmed that on February 1, customers in Missouri would be charged the state sales tax for online orders.

Laura Holloway, communications specialist with the Missouri Municipal League, said that Amazon would also be collecting city and county use tax where it is applicable. She said that she was not positive if Amazon was actually going to charge a city or county’s use tax.

Holloway said that there are about 120 cities and counties in Missouri that have a use tax.

Holloway said that MML would monitor the situation on February 1.

Holloway said that so far, Amazon is charging state sales tax and city and county use tax, but only on Amazon products such as the Kindle or Echo.

Third-party products have not shown the addition of any sales tax.
