What’s Going Around: Jan. 31, 2017

Doctors are describing this week as the “perfect storm” of winter illnesses in mid-Missouri. The flu is dominating the doctor’s office this week. Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services reports 349 cases in Boone County. Doctor Tara Flynn from Mizzou Quick Cares and Urgent Care says about every other patient of hers is coming in with the flu, especially flu A. The vast majority of those coming down with it have not gotten the flu shot. Flynn also says mumps are still sticking around. Many were expecting the mumps to die down once the college students went home for break, but that wasn’t the case. She says the younger kids have been experiencing RSV. The doctors at Broadway Urgent Care say that they are also seeing a lot of flu. In addition to that, patients are coming in with upper respiratory infections, bronchitis, pneumonia and sinus infections.
