Fire destroys Maries County home, no one hurt

Fire officials are working to determine what started a fire that destroyed a home on Maries County Road 334 Saturday.

Emergency responders were called to a house fire just after 4 p.m.

Detective Scott John, with the Maries County sheriff’s office, said everyone in the home made it out, but a family pet was still missing.

John said the fire appears to have been accidental. While a specific cause hadn’t yet been determined Saturday evening, John said firefighters at the scene believe a woodpile near the home caught on fire from an ember blown from the exterior wood furnace chimney.

The sheriff’s office assisted Maries Osage ambulance, Vienna Fire Department, Argyle Fire Department and the Freeburg Fire Department at the scene.
