Snow flurries possible for Sunday

A good portion of the US is waking up to quiet conditions this morning, which will translate to a seasonal and quiet end to the last full week of January. Thanks to a cold front that tracked through Mid-Missouri Wednesday, our temperatures are finally where they should be for this time of year. There was even some reports of a few snow flurries along and North of I-70.

Now that the cold front has come and gone, our focus shifts on what to expect the next several days. Thanks to zonal flow at the surface and northwesterly winds aloft, we can expect to see the seasonal conditions persist. Thankfully, we aren’t expected to see a major arctic outbreak.

With no major weather pattern set to track across the country, Mid-Missouri will be on the dry side, with a very small chance of seeing a few snow flurries as we head into the weekend. This comes as a ridge builds in from the west with a trough to the east. As we head into the weekend, a weak shortwave will track from the northwest and into Mid-Missouri. This shortwave could squeeze a few snowflakes out, but no accumulation is expected. It’s likely that we’ll stay dry outside of that small chance of snow flurries for the next 7 days, continuing our abnormal drought problem here.
