Man charged after police respond to possible overdose death

A man was charged Monday after police responded to a possible overdose Sunday at a Jefferson City apartment.

ABC 17 News obtained court documents claiming officers were called to an apartment on Union Street for an unresponsive woman. When they arrived they found the woman dead in a bedroom. After searching the room, officers say they found a spoon with burned residue in an air vent.

Jefferson City Police Officers took Michael Baker to the Police Department for an interview. During the interview he admitted to buying a Fentanyl patch. Court documents say he told police he and the woman both injected the drug and he woke up to find the woman unresponsive.

Baker allegedly injected himself while a child was lying in bed with him. During the interview Baker also allegedly admitted to hiding the narcotics in another room before police arrived.

Baker is charged with possession of controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

During this investigation, police also identified Baker as a suspect in an attempted armed robbery at the JC Mart on West Dunklin Street.
