Mild weekend, rain chance for some
Although this is usually the coldest time of the year, we are getting a break from our normal winter weather. Thirty years of weather data shows average lows at 21 and highs at 39 for the 21st through 28th of January. However this weekend, temperatures will go much higher than our averages, reaching the lower 60s Saturday and near 50 Sunday.
We’ll finally see some sunshine to start the weekend but clouds will move back in as a storm system tracks to our south. Saturday looks like the nicest day of the weekend with a south breeze and high temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Below are forecast highs across Mid-Missouri for Saturday.
Moisture will lift north Saturday night through Sunday morning as a storm system moves across southern Missouri. An upper level disturbance will lift across Mid-Missouri, producing scattered showers after 6 PM Saturday, continuing overnight. These will be ” hit and miss” and will bring up to two tenths of an inch of rain. Below is a snapshot of potential rain at 10 PM Saturday evening
Heading into Sunday, a storm system will move across southern Missouri and rain showers will shift east through the morning, mainly affecting areas along and south of HWY 54 through early afternoon. Below is a snapshot of potential rain at 10 AM Sunday.
Cooler air moves in Sunday with winds from the northwest up to 12 mph. Morning clouds will break up north of I-70 in the afternoon but will persist south through the day. High temperatures will stay in the mid 40s to near 50 Sunday which is still above average for January. Rainfall amounts from Saturday night through Sunday will be under a quarter inch.
