Remodeling projects in the works for three City of Columbia fire stations, training academy

The City of Columbia has authorized the remodel of three fire stations as well as the Fire Training Academy facility.

Council members authorized the City Manager to move forward with the remodel agreement at last night’s meeting.

The design and construction of the projects will be funded by the extension of the one-fourth of one percent capital improvement sales tax ballot. Voters approved the sales tax extension on August 4, 2015.

The fire stations include:
-Fire Station #4, located at 2300 Oakland Gravel Road (opened in December of 1970)
-Fire Station #5, located at 1400 Ballenger Lane (opened in December of 1971)
-Fire Station #6, located at 3112 Chapel Hill Road (opened in 1973)

Remodeling projects for all three facilities include:
-new roof for the entire structure
-remodel bathroom (make 1 large bathroom into 2 bathrooms)
-add plumbing for large extractor type washer
-evaluate HVAC system and update or replace as necessary
-install water softener system

Improvements for the Fire Training Academy include:
-remodel classroom space
-remodel both bathrooms
-upgrade the HVAC system and update or replace as necessary
-Add a 60′ x 80′ standalone, two-bay building for truck storage with room for another storage
-resurface parking lot

Archimages, Inc. of St. Louis has been selected to design the improvements. According to the city, the contract with Archimages will not exceed the amount of $171,830.
