Autopsy scheduled in Columbia Wednesday after woman’s body found in Phelps County

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday in Columbia in connection with a death investigation in Phelps County.

Phelps County deputies responded to the intersection of County Road 3000 and County Road 3220 just before 1:00 Tuesday afternoon after a citizen reported a woman’s body was in a ditch there.

Deputies say they arrived and found 25-year-old Kayla Wilson, of Cuba, Missouri, dead and lying in a ditch.

Authorities say they determined Wilson passed away from unknown causes and say they have already notified her family.

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department says an autopsy will be conducted in Columbia, Missouri Wednesday. They say right now, a cause of death has yet to be determined.

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and the Phelps County Coroner’s Office are still investigating the incident.
