Some taxpayers won’t get refunds until late February
People are able to file taxes starting Jan. 23, but claiming two tax credits won’t allow some taxpayers to get their refunds until after Feb. 15.
If a taxpayer claims either the earned income tax credit or the additional child tax credit, tax returns won’t be processed until Feb. 15. The IRS website says those people shouldn’t expect to receive refunds until at least Feb. 27.
The IRS website also says that the rule applies to the entire refund, even the portion that doesn’t apply to EITC or ACTC.
More information about filing taxes for 2016 is available on the IRS website.
