Hearing scheduled for Harpo’s lawsuit

UPDATE 9:09 a.m.: Both parties decided to move forward with the lawsuit and are waiting on a court date.

ORIGINAL STORY: On Tuesday, a counsel status hearing is scheduled for the attorneys involved in the Harpo’s lawsuit.

It will allow both parties to talk about how they want to continue with the lawsuit.

It was filed back in December after alleged events in November when Harpo’s claimed the business near them blocked access to two doors by building a concrete wall on the main stairwell.

The business says people were using the emergency exit door for more than just emergencies

Harpo’s says that wall is a breach of a previous agreement upon contract.

The wall also stopped Harpo’s from meeting all its safety requirements.

The Fire Department inspected the bar and found there was a locked emergency door, but firefighters notes did not mention a concrete wall.

The inspection results forced the owner’s of Harpo’s to shut down its nightclub located below Harpo’s, known as Ten Below.

The lawsuit claims Harpo’s has suffered a loss of revenue by not being allowed to use a significant portion of its property.

Tuesday at 9 a.m. both parties will meet in front of a judge to decide where to go in the lawsuit

ABC17 crews will be at the hearing.
