Car fire briefly shuts down Highway 63; no one hurt

Northbound Highway 63 was shut down for about 45 minutes Sunday night while firefighters worked to put out a car fully engulfed in flames.

The Boone County Fire Protection District were called to the fire near Hinton Road around 7:30 p.m.

Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said a Boone County sheriff’s deputy saw the car pulled off the road with the front engine compartment on fire. Blomenkamp said the driver was out of the car when firefighters arrived and wasn’t hurt.

Both lanes of Highway 63 North were shut down while firefighters doused the fire.

The highway was reopened just before 8:30 p.m.
