Gov. Greitens speaks on ice storm, state of emergency
UPDATE 5:15 p.m.: After announcing a state of emergency, on Friday Gov. Greitens and Missouri’s Emergency Management Team provided another update on the ice storm as it passes through mid-Missouri.
MoDOT brought in over 1,500 trucks for pretreating roads across the state. Crews also worked all week to get ready for power outages and downed trees by preparing essential equipment like generators and chain saws.
More more than 3,500 responders are currently working 12-hour shifts, and employee leave has been canceled for troopers at the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
ORIGINAL STORY: Ahead of Friday’s predicted severe storms, state agencies began preparing for the hazardous conditions.
The Missouri Department of Transportation started road treatment Thursday on major roads and highways.
Gov. Eric Greitens activated the State Emergency Operations Center in response to the anticipated ice storm.
All state agencies are warning Missourians to use extreme caution while driving on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
MoDOT also advises residents to avoid any travel is possible as conditions are expected to be treacherous.
