Ice Storm Update: Most Ice Sat Night- Sun

Waves of moisture will continue to move into Mid-Missouri, riding over below freezing air, producing periods of freezing rain through Sunday. The first round of freezing rain which moved through Friday brought up to a quarter inch of ice to areas south of HWY 50 and a glaze of ice as far north as southern Boone County. After a break in precipitation, areas of freezing rain will move through the area from late Friday evening and overnight. This will bring a glaze to a tenth inch of ice to areas as far north as HWY 24.

Early morning freezing rain ends and most of the day Saturday is dry with temperatures near or just above freezing for a few hours in the afternoon. As temperatures fall to the freezing mark Saturday night, moisture moves back in from the southwest and freezing rain will increase.

All of Mid-Missouri, including the Lake of the Ozarks will see freezing rain Saturday night, starting as early as 11 PM near Truman Reservoir, spreading northeast to I-70 by 2 AM. This will be widespread and more steady with ice accumulation likely through Sunday morning as it spreads north of I-70 through 6 AM.

This will gradually taper off through noon but rain will linger along the I-44 corridor as temperatures warm above freezing by noon Sunday. As rain increases again Sunday afternoon, it will be mainly liquid rain in above freezing temperatures south of I-70 but still freezing rain north. Ice is still possible through mid-evening Sunday north of HWY 24 in northern Missouri before temperatures start to climb above the freezing mark.

Total ice accumulation could reach a half inch in some areas with most of Mid-Missouri expected to see two tenths up to a half inch of ice, most which comes Saturday night through Sunday morning. This could cause broken tree branches and power outages.
