Thursday January 12 Morning Weather

TODAY: After freezing drizzle through 6AM north of I-70 clouds will decreasing with falling temperatures. Temperatures will fall through the low 30s and mid 20s with skies becoming partly cloudy and north winds to 10 mph.

TONIGHT: High and mid level clouds will be on the increase this evening. Winds will be from the north/northeast under 10 mph with temperatures turning much colder in the low 20s with a wind chill falling to the single digits by Friday.

EXTENDED: A winter storm will impact the region starting Friday and continuing through Sunday morning. It will be much colder Friday with temperatures in the 20s nearly all day. Sleet and freezing rain will increase from the south, beginning in the Ozarks as early as 6 AM, spreading north to I-70 by afternoon and evening. By Friday at 12PM, ice accumulation will be possible across the Truman Reservoir area and Lake area where 0.10″ is possible. Freezing rain will increasing in the afternoon moving into Columbia between 12PM and 6PM. Accumulation will start up during this time for I-70 and continue through Saturday morning before temperatures briefly reach above freezing. At this time 0.10″ to 0.25″ of ice is possible with highest amounts in southwest Mid-Missouri. Saturday night temperatures will dip below freezing again allowing for more ice accumulation, especially to those south of I-70 where total accumulation near 0.50″ of ice is possible near the Ozarks into Sunday morning. As temperatures warm above freezing near I-44, it will change to all rain by Sunday morning. Areas north could still have freezing rain Sunday morning but a changeover to rain is expected during the day as temperatures slowly warm from south to north.
