Man in custody after Jefferson City police chase
UPDATE 11:07 p.m.: A man was taken into police custody Wednesday night after a short chase in Jefferson City.
Police said the man failed to stop for a traffic stop on Monroe Street near Highway 54 around 10:30 p.m. According to police, the man led them on a short pursuit, before ditching his vehicle on West Main Street. A police dog was brought in to assist the search and was able to locate the man.
Police haven’t released the man’s identity or what charges he might face.
UPDATE 10:47 p.m.: ABC 17 News crews report seeing a person in handcuffs being read their rights by police. That person was then placed in the back of a Jefferson City police cruiser.
ORIGINAL STORY: Police are searching an area just off Highway 54 in Jefferson City near the Missouri River bridge.
According to ABC 17 News crews, several police officers and a police dog were seen going through a red car in the 900 block of West Main Street.
Crews also saw police officers enter a gated area with their guns drawn.
ABC 17 News will update this story once we find out the identify of the suspect and if charges will be filed.
