Freezing rain spreads north Friday
Freezing rain will spread from south to north Friday, starting as early as 4 AM near I-44. Ice will start to accumulate in the morning with a glaze of ice possible as far north as Jefferson City, Linn, Versailles and Hermann with freezing rain making it to HWY 50 by 9 AM. Below are forecast ice accumulation amounts for Jefferson City.
Freezing rain continues to spread north to near I-70 by noon, with a glaze of ice developing in Columbia, Fulton, Boonville and Montgomery city by noon. Below is the ice accumulation forecast for Columbia for Friday.
As freezing rain moves north of I-70, ice accumulation will increase from afternoon through Friday evening, up to HWY 36 by 9 PM.
We will have waves of moisture move through Friday night, tapering off for a time Saturday but increasing again Saturday night into Sunday. Although temperatures could rise just above freezing south of I-70 Saturday, temperatures will fall again Saturday night and freezing rain will continue. A push of warmer air finally moves in Sunday and it looks more likely that we’ll climb above freezing from south to north in the afternoon, melting the ice. Precipitation Sunday night into Monday will be all rain as temperatures continue to climb. Before that happens, significant icing is possible. Below are potential ice amounts through Sunday in Mid-Missouri.
