Moberly man shot by police identified, in critical condition

UPDATE 5:41 p.m.: 37 year-old Joseph Ritter is listed in critical condition in a Columbia hospital.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the man shot by a police officer in Moberly Tuesday afternoon.

37 year-old Joseph Ritter is now listed in stable condition in a Columbia hospital.

The report shows that Moberly Police officers were dispatched to 406 West Carpenter just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to “keep the peace.” When officers arrived, Ritter began acting erratically and reportedly ran into the kitchen and grabbed a large knife. Ritter then approached the officer in a threatening manner resulting in the officer discharging his firearm.

No other injuries were reported during the incident.
