Best Chance for Ice Accumulation Friday through Sunday
We are honing in on the winter storm that will impact Mid-Missouri as early as Friday morning. As early as 6AM a mix of sleet and freezing rain is possible near the Lake of the Ozarks and I-44. Minor ice accumulation will be possible during the day on Friday, but enough to cause accidents as roads will be icy during the Friday with the air temperature in the mid 20s.
The evening commute looks like it could be a messy one, as moisture lifts towards I-70 by 5PM-7PM. Freezing rain will make it’s way to I-70, the timing however will be fine tuned in the next 12 to 24 hours again. Accumulation in ice increases by Friday night where all of Mid-Missouri could see some ice accumulation. Higher ice totals look to be near the Ozarks and possibly east of HWY 54. Forecast model data suggests most areas from I-70 and south seeing 0.10″ to 0.25″ of ice. There could be locally higher amounts. When 0.25″ of ice occurs, this can cause tree limbs to snap, and power lines to fail. Power outages will be a concern from Friday through Saturday. By Sunday morning temperature look to rise above 32 mid morning. Therefore the Winter Storm Watch does not include Sunday. Rain looks likely during the day on Sunday. Stay tuned for more updates.
