Monday Morning January 9

TODAY: After 5 days below 32, temperatures will be on the upswing starting today. It will be a cold morning with temperatures in the low 20s and a wind chill of 10-15 for the morning commute with a southeast wind. Temperatures look to get above freezing by 9AM-12PM today with high clouds on the increase in the afternoon. Winds will persist out of the south/southeast around 8-10 mph, increasing by evening near 14 mph. This will also lead to a slight chance for drizzle after midnight.

TONIGHT: A chance for drizzle returns tonight and early Tuesday morning. Due to sustained southerly winds near 10-14 mph temperatures overnight look to be in the upper 30s, to low 40s, so no winter weather is expected at this time.

EXTENDED: Warming continues into Tuesday as the high is expected to reach the mid 50s; a direct result from the persistent warm and moist air pulling in from the south. Temperatures will continue to be unseasonably warm through Thursday. Another cold front will bring a chance for rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning mainly to those north of I-70 where 0.25″ is possible. Colder air will settle in by the weekend, bringing a wintry mix from Friday through Sunday. Sleet and freezing rain is not ruled out at this time. As the weekend gets closer, and more data becomes available, timing and winter precipitation will be specified. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
