Apartment fire on Mexico Gravel Road leaves dog dead
UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to fire investigators, the early morning blaze was caused by unattended cooking in the kitchen of apartment A. Damages to that, and another apartment is estimated at $120,000.
UPDATE 9:13 a.m.: According to a media release from the Columbia Fire Department, there was a residential structure fire at 2811 Mexico Gravel Road, apartment A early Thursday morning.
Units arrived less than six minutes later and got the fire under control in 20 minutes. Apartment A sustained heavy fire damage and an adjacent apartment sustained smoke and water damage. Nine fire units responded to the scene.
Resuscitation efforts were performed on the dog that died. There were no other injuries.
ORIGINAL STORY: An apartment fire leaves one dog dead on Mexico Gravel Road Thursday morning.
The apartment complex houses 22 people. Eight people were inside of the apartment where the fire started. All of them got out safely, except for a dog that died.
