Towing companies, auto repair shops gear up for winter weather
Tow companies and repair shops are staying busy with the winter weather.
Economy towing says they will be fully staffed Wednesday night andThursday in preparation for people who plan to drive in these snowy conditions.
Kevin Smith with Economy Towing says the winter time often mean very little sleep, as tow company employees typically will see 2-3 hours of sleep.
“These bad storms we don’t get sleep, we got to stay out there to help everybody,” Smith said.
A majority of his day is out helping those stranded on the roads. When asked how many calls he could respond to Smith told ABC 17 News, “There is no telling, sky is the limit,” he said. “It could be as much as 18 to 20 calls.”
If you find yourself stuck on the roads, Smith says to get to safe spot if you can pull over and patiently wait.
If you find yourself getting ready to hit the roads, Chris Fulk at A-Z Auto Repair says winterizing your car is key to not being a crash statistic.
“You want to make sure your fluid levels are full which include oil, transmission, power steering, brake, and windshield fluid,” Fulk said.
A common repair Fulk sees during the winter time is dying batteries.
“You want to make sure you’re checking your battery to ensure not only the knobs are tight but they are clean so they can breathe,” Fulk said.
Another thing that you want to keep an eye on is your vehicle’s tire pressure. During winter weather tire pressure can drop.
