Crash records indicate 4-year-old hurt in chase in southeast Columbia
UPDATE 5:08 p.m.: Knowles has been officially charged with two counts of felony child endangerment and resisting arrest by fleeing.
UPDATE 1/4: Public arrest and crash records indicate a man and child involved in a chase Tuesday suffered minor injuries after crashing.
A crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol shows troopers arrested 32-year-old Corey Knowles around 7:30 Tuesday night after a crash near south Highway 63 near the Route AC exit ramp.
That’s the same area where ABC 17 News reported a chase ended Tuesday night involving children, however troopers have not yet confirmed that Knowles is the man arrested in connection with that chase.
The arrest report says Knowles was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest by fleeing, endangering the welfare of a child, driving while suspended, leaving the scene of a crash and operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.
A crash report shows a four-year-old child was also in the vehicle when it crashed. It says the girl suffered minor injuries and says she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck. Both the child and Knowles were taken to hospitals in Columbia.
ORIGINAL: A chase ended on Falling Leaf Court with one in custody Tuesday evening.
Sgt. Scott White with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the chase began around 7:00 p.m. when troopers attempted to pull over a white SUV at Highway 63 and Broadway.
The SUV kept driving south and crashed at the Grindstone exit, hitting a ditch and getting stuck.
Sgt. White said the troopers did not make the exit at that time, and had to circle back to the exit, where they found the SUV empty.
Law enforcement on the scene told ABC 17 News a man jumped out of the vehicle with children and ran down Falling Leaf Court before being taken into custody.
The man was being questioned. The children are said to be okay.
An ambulance was on scene, along with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Columbia Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Columbia Fire Department.
