Police say no arrests yet in arson investigation for Columbia apartment complex fire
UPDATE 1/3: Columbia police confirm they’re investigating last month’s apartment complex fire as an arson.
They say officers were dispatched to help the fire department on December 8th in the 2300 block of S. Providence Road.
They say the fire was determined to have been intentionally set and say an arson investigation is ongoing.
Police tell ABC 17 News apartment A in this complex was a total loss and apartment B in this complex had smoke damage.
They say they have not made any arrests in the case.
ORIGINAL: Public police records indicate the cause of an apartment fire was arson.
The apartment fire occurred on December 8th in the 2300 block of Providence Road.
When our ABC17 crews were on scene, they noticed a lot of flames and smoke.
No one was injured but there was significant interior and exterior damage.
Firefighters were on scene for multiple hours investigating the scene.
Not 24 hours later, another unit in the same apartment complex caught fire.
Firefighters have not released the cause of either fires.
ABC17 has contacted the police to confirm the cause and see if there are any suspects in custody, we have not heard back.
