Jefferson City man charged with second degree murder
New details are emerging after a Jefferson City man was charged for a deadly New Year’s Day shooting.
Jeffery Millens was charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon for the shooting death of Quonterio Davis.
ABC 17 News first reported Sunday Jefferson City Police responded to the 900 block of East Capitol Avenue for a report of a weapons offense and that someone might have been shot at a party around 1:05 a.m.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Davis inside a home with gunshot wounds to his body. He was transported to a hospital where he later died.
According to court documents, one witness on scene said he was standing by the victim when he was shot with a “chrome semi-automatic pistol.” The witness described the shooter as a black man with long dreads wearing a red jacket with a gray top. Officers were told Millens was at the party wearing the same clothing and hairstyle.
There was a known conflict between Millens and Davis over a woman they each have children with.
The woman said she went to the party with Davis and was in another room when she heard glass break and an argument coming from the room Davis was in. She was then told by another person that she needed to hide for her own safety because Millens was in the house. She hid and said she heard several gunshots.
After the shooting, she said she was told Millens had shot Davis.
Officers arrested Millens shortly after the shooting. He said he did not know Davis and was not at the home.
A third witness was later interviewed by police. They said a fight broke out between Davis and another person. After Davis was shot, the witness could see Davis gasping for air and recognized Millens as the shooter.
