Man arrested for 2nd degree murder after deadly Columbia crash
UPDATE 12/31: A man has been arrested after a fatal crash Friday night and the name of the driver who died has been released.
A sergeant in the Columbia Police Department said Joshua M. Keller, 33, was arrested on charges of murder in the second degree, assault in the second degree, driving while revoked and careless and imprudent driving.
According to court records, Keller pleaded guilty to driving under the influence as a persistent offender in May 2014.
Keller was on probation when the crash occurred just after 8:40 p.m. Friday at Business Loop East and Eastland Circle.
Police said the driver of the other car, 39-year-old Sebastian Sneed, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the collision. The passenger in Sneed’s car, a six-year-old child related to Sneed, suffered minor injuries.
ORIGINAL STORY: Emergency crews responded to a deadly crash in Columbia Friday night.
Officer Eric Wiegman, crash investigator with the Columbia Police Department, confirmed one driver died. His passenger, a child, and the driver of the other vehicle had moderate injuries.
Both vehicles were left with extensive damage. One car had flipped and the other’s front end had been smashed in.
Police said the investigation into the crash will take months.
Next of kin had not been notified as of 11 p.m. Friday.
