More travelers on roads this year versus 2015
This holiday season will be a record-breaking travel season. More than 103 million Americans are expected to have traveled by the end of the season AAA says.
More than 1.5 people will be traveling this year compared with 2015.
According to AAA , the warmer weather and low gas prices play into that statistic, something Missourian’s are familiar with.
Lt. Paul Reinsch with the Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding this drivers this holiday season to drive slow and safe.
“More people are out on the roads this time of year so we are just asking drivers to exercise caution on the roads, don’t drink and drive and of course it’s important to wear your seat belt,” Reinsch said.
Although Missouri didn’t have a white Christmas, we did experience a rainy one.
Reinsch expresses the importance of making sure drivers drive even slower with slick roads.
“Slick roadways can cause people to lose control,” Reinsch said, “People need to slow down and increase their following distance and make sure their cars are prepared to travel.”
Before heading out the door you can check on MoDOT’s traffic camera for real time traffic.
MoDOT says all construction projects have been put on hold until Tuesday.
