Saturday Morning, December 24

TODAY: A DENSE FOG ADVISORY is in effect for Benton, Camden, Cooper, Chariton, Howard, Macon, Maries, Miller, Morgan, Pettis, Phelps, Pulaski, Randolph, and Saline counties until 9 AM this morning. Areas north of I-70 and west of US 65 have the potential to see temperatures at freezing or slightly below. This can lead to freezing fog causing surfaces, such as roads, to have slick spots. So if you live north of I-70, make sure to be cautious on roadways during the morning hours. Counties south of I-70 will remain above freezing, but still use caution on bridges and elevated surfaces during early morning hours. By mid-morning the fog will begin to lift out of Mid-Missouri with our high temperatures reaching the upper 40s. Clouds are going to persist in our skies leading to a gloomy but dry Christmas Eve with winds out of the SE around 5 mph. By tonight, we will see temperatures dip to the lower 40s with another chance for late night drizzles and patchy fog.

SUNDAY: Christmas looks breezy & warm with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, possibly near 60 degrees. Two rounds of showers and storms are possible. The first in the morning will occur from 7AM-11AM lifting from the south. We’ll have some dry time in the afternoon before an approaching cold front moves in Sunday night, bringing a line of thunderstorms from 7PM-Midnight. There is a Marginal Risk for Severe Weather at this time west of US 63 for the potential of damaging 60 mph winds. Winds of 40 mph or greater however can impact vehicles, cause debris on roads, and impact holiday decor. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Sunday night. Total rainfall amounts for the weekend are expected to come in at 0.50″ near I-70 with higher amounts of 1″ across the Ozarks, I-44, and north of HWY 24..

EXTENDED: Monday is shaping up to be sunny and dry. Traveling conditions will be favorable as temperatures don’t reach freezing until Monday night. Tuesday also holds sunny and dry conditions with Wednesday breaking this short-lived trend of dry weather with a chance for early morning rain. Another chance for precipitation exists for Wednesday evening. Temperatures will remain bearable this week lingering in the 40s for the highs and lows remaining in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
