School board members hold meeting over second Jefferson City High School

Members of the Jefferson City Public School Board of Education met on Thursday night to discuss the possibility of building a second high school.

ABC 17 News was at the meeting as district leaders gave a presentation to the community about why the second school is needed.

Committee member Brad Bates said, “We’re in a district that hasn’t made a lot of changes in the last few years so, I mean, its kind of caught up with us a little bit so we’re trying to fix the negatives we have.”

The Jefferson City school board is considering putting a $130 million bond issue and 55-cent operating tax levy on the April 2017 ballot.

The tax levy would generate about $5.5 million a year for school operations.

Last week, school board members outlined how much it would cost to construct the second high school.
