Police investigating after neighbors report hearing gunshots in north Columbia

Columbia police confirm they responded to reports of possible gunshots in north Columbia.

It happened around 5:30 Wednesday morning near Newton Drive and Leslie Lane.

Police say several neighbors in the area called and reported hearing a popping noise that they say sounded like gunshots.

Officers on scene were seen looking for shell casings and damage, however we’re told they did not find any. Police say they also did not find any possible suspects in the area and say they believe a possible suspect vehicle left the area going west.

Police left the scene just before 6:00am, but say they’ll keep circling the area.

ABC 17 News will keep checking in with police for updates through the morning. We’ll update this story as we learn more.
