Man tries to stab victim in Fulton
Police were dispatched to Westminster Avenue and West 9th Street early Wednesday morning in Fulton. The caller, Zachary Hopkins, said that his son Deangelo Hopkins was having a schizophrenic episode and tried to hurt himself.
While looking for Deangelo, police were directed to 415 1/2 West 9th Street, where Lavada Gipson lived. Gipson was said to be involved with Deangelo. Authorities were told that Deangelo assaulted Gipson’s roommate, James Gravemann, with a knife.
Gravemann told police that at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Deangelo was on top of him, trying to stab him while he was asleep. It is unknown how many times Deangelo tried to stab Gravermann, but the knife did not go through the blankets on top of Gravermann because of their thickness.
Gravermann was able to get his right hand free, and that’s when he was cut by Deangelo’s knife. Deangelo fled the scene and Gravermann denied medical treatment.
A judge has issued a warrant for Deangelo’s arrest, but it has not been served.
