Sewer line smoke test scheduled for downtown Columbia

The Columbia Utilities’ sewer division has announced scheduled sewer line smoke testing in downtown Columbia next week.

At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, work crews will use non-toxic and odorless smoke at 16 N. Eighth St. to see if any stormwater is entering the sewer system through any possible cracks.

The test is expected to take 30 minutes to complete.

People in the area at the time of the test may observe visible smoke coming from the ground.

If any problems are found, crews will plan and complete repairs.
