Man arrested for weapons, drugs with child in vehicle

A Callaway County man is facing charges after being arrested for having a weapon and drugs in his car as well as a child, according to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office. .

The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday at 8:57 p.m., deputies responded to the 10000 block of State Road BB near Tebbetts for a report of shots fired. Deputies received a vehicle description and at 9:12 p.m., a deputy located and stopped the suspect vehicle on State Road BB and US Highway 54 near Fulton.

The driver of the car was Darren Schrimpf of Tebbetts. During the traffic stop, deputies say they found a firearm and meth in the car. Deputies say a child was also in the car during the traffic stop.

Schrimpf was arrested and taken to the Callaway County Jail. Thursday, Scrimpf was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possesion of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Scrimpf is currently being held on no bond and is awaiting a court appearance.

Scrimpf has a previous felony conviction for receiving stolen property, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
