Man’s petition to set aside guilty plea in murder case denied

A Laclede County Circuit Court has denied Steven N. Henderson’s petition to set aside his guilty plea and conviction for first degree murder.

Henderson pled guilty to the murder of Macala Shelton, 13, in Nov. 2014 after the case was moved to Laclede County on a change of venue.

He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of probation or parole. On Jan. 23, 2015, Henderson filed an action seeking to set aside his guilty plea, because he claimed that he had ineffective counsel.

The action was opposed by the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney and a trial was conducted in July 2016. The court issued its ruling on Nov. 22, 2016.
