Deadly Montgomery County crash likely caused by weather

The Highway Patrol said slick roads likely caused a deadly two-vehicle crash just outside of Wellsville Sunday morning.

The crash happened on Highway 19 at Cedar Road around 11:30 a.m.

According to the crash report, Ronna Rise, 61, of Mendon, Illinois, was traveling southbound with four others when she lost control of her van and hit a vehicle driven by Jana Woods, 39, of Auxvasse.

Woods and Rise were not injured in the crash, but the four people in Rise’s van were taken to the hospital with moderate to serious injuries. Doris Durk, 83, of Mendon, Illinois, later died from her injuries.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the crash scene.

Editor’s Note: In an earlier version of this story, the Missouri State Highway Patrol believed Woods’ vehicle lost control. This story has been updated with the new crash report information.
