Monday Evening, December 5

TONIGHT: Most areas will stay dry tonight, especially north of I-70. Clouds look to increase this evening from the south with rain moving in by midnight near I-44. Rain totals through Tuesday morning look to be light under 0.25″ with highest amounts near Rolla. Temperatures overnight look to bottom out near freezing, so it’s important to watch out for an icy glaze forming on less traveled roadways.

FRIDAY: The morning commute could be dealing with some possible patchy fog, but clouds should limit just how much fog forms. By the afternoon hours, clouds will be on the decrease with sunny skies arriving by the middle of the afternoon. Highs tomorrow ill be near 40, with winds out of the northeast under 15 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph can’t be ruled out, but the big factor here is the wind chill in the 30s all day.

EXTENDED: Tuesday’s conditions will be partly sunny with temperatures in the lower 40s. We are watching the coldest air yet this season move in by Wednesday night. Along with this significantly colder air, there is a slight chance of snow Wednesday starting in the afternoon. During the day surface temperatures will be above freezing. Aloft temperatures will be cold enough for snow to develop, although accumulation doesn’t look likely during the day. Freezing temperatures look to move in by Wednesday evening with the best chance for minor accumulation from 6PM-10PM, especially west of US 63. Temperatures will plummet to the upper teens Wednesday night, bringing a wind chill close to 1 to 5 degrees by Thursday morning. Friday morning looks to be the coldest this week with an air temperature near 10-15 and a wind chill of 0 in Columbia and possibly subzero north of I-70. We’ll have more details on the cold blast and precipitation chances as new data comes in. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
