Suspect charged after Boone County chase, crash involving deputy vehicle

UPDATE, 12/3/16: Dennis Collins has been charged with assault and attempted assault, resisting arrest and driving while revoked.

Boone County deputies have arrested a man accused of leading authorities on a brief chase and causing a crash involving a deputy vehicle.

It happened just before midnight in the 700 block of Demaret Drive.

Deputies say they arrested Dennis Collins Jr. after he refused to stop for a deputy.They say deputies tried to pull him over for a traffic violation when he took off.

Collins then allegedly stopped in the parking lot of a subdivision on Demaret and ran off.

Collins apparently did not put the car in park, causing it to hit two vehicles, including a deputy’s vehicle and a parked car.

Authorities also say a deputy also had to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit.

Authorities tell us they found Collins at a nearby residence and arrested him. Collins was located in a nearby residence and taken into custody. Collins was arrested for driving while revoked, second degree assault on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, probation and parole violation warrant and for a Jefferson City municipal warrant.
