Jefferson City Fire Department responds to apartment fire
The Jefferson City Fire Department was called out to reports of smoke at an apartment building in the 200 block of Dunklin Street on Friday night around 11 p.m.
When firefighters arrived on scene flames were showing from the second floor of the apartment complex.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire on the second floor before it spread anywhere else.
The apartment where the fire started sustained moderate fire and smoke damage. Some damage was done to the first floor due to the water.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but firefighters believe it started in the kitchen.
There was one resident who was displaced by the fire and the Red Cross was contacted to help.
